Eastern Suburbs Dog Training Club supports the Foundation

Centennial Parklands is one of the most dog-friendly public parklands in Sydney - in fact approximately 43 per cent (or 154 hectares) of its total open space is designated as off-leash areas!

Eastern Suburbs Dog Training Club Dedicated Tree Since 1962, the Eastern Suburbs Dog Training Club has run dog obedience training classes on Sundays adjacent to Musgrave Ponds in Centennial Park (opposite Queens Park). Centennial Parklands and the Club are working together to promote a healthy Park and responsible dog ownership. In recognition of this long association, the Club recently donated $5,000 towards the Foundation’s Tree Transplant Appeal.

A replacement tree – a Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) - was planted in place of the huge oak that used to be the centrepiece of the Musgrave area. This tree was diseased and had to be removed last year for safety reasons.

Members of ES Dog Club at the tree planting ceremonyA tree dedication ceremony was held on Sunday 14 March, with large gathering of Club members in attendance. Club President Robert Fairhead observed, "It will be many years before the new oak is as shady as the old tree, but in the meantime Club members can take pride in watching the young tree grow and in the knowledge that one day those that follow us will shelter under its shade and read that this centrepiece tree was donated to Centennial Park by the Club."
