Centennial Parklands
Posted: 26 May 2010
On Saturday 15 May, the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust was delighted to provide an opportunity to thank our great team of volunteers for the practical support and passion for the Parklands over the past year and beyond.
The Trust hosted a brief thank you ceremony with certificates for our volunteers, and gifts for the outstanding contributors followed by a lunch at the Education Precinct. Around 24 volunteers, representing more than 150 participants attended.
Our volunteer program is an invaluable connection to the community and it is clear the volunteers value the opportunity.
One of our volunteers from the Visitor Information Counter, Mike Shapiro, gave an impressive speech that was well received by his familiar audience.
Centennial Parklands volunteers have provided an estimated 4,000 hours of support to the Parklands in the past year – a fantastic effort and a big increase over the previous year. Volunteer activities range from bush regeneration to plant propagation, bird surveys and carp removal from the ponds, archive and visitor information work.
The Centennial Parklands Foundation funded the event and launched the new distinctive and easily identifiable navy blue polo shirt and hat uniforms for the volunteers. The Foundation Chair Sarah Whyte, Deputy Chair Margaret Varady and Governor Crystal Condous also attended in support.
