EASTERN SUBURBS BANKSIA SCRUB

Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS) is a national- and state-listed Endangered Ecological scrub and heath vegetation community confined to deep, wind formed sand deposits in the coastal suburbs of Sydney.

While it originally covered over 5,300 hectares, today the reduction in the extent of Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub is sadly estimated to fall within the range of 91.2%-97.4%.

Centennial Parklands has 6 remnant sites of Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub (ESBS). Sites include:

  • Randwick Gate to Ash Paddock
  • Kensington Ponds
  • Queens Park
  • Bird Sanctuary
  • York Road and York Road West.

Centennial Parklands Foundation assists in the conservation and restoration of the ESBS by funding bush regeneration work.

Environmental weeds are one of the biggest threats to our biodiversity in remnant bushland. Through vital bush regeneration work we are protecting a valuable and irreplaceable asset to the Parklands.

ESBS bush remnants are important areas to be protected within Centennial Parklands, and through our work we have seen an increase in new native species found at these sites.
